“Kokeshi 10”
12″x9″ oil on canvas sold
I couldn’t help but admire the submissions to Carol Marine’s DPW challenge to painting a small painting for 10 minutes and do it 8x. I haven’t been to the store due to inclement weather we’ve been having in Northwest Arkansas, but I wanted to paint something red. So this is why I chose my nodding kokeshi (Japanese wooden doll) for my subject.
Above was the first half. I am left handed so I had to start at the bottom right. The 2 hours I allotted for the process didn’t work out because I had phones calls which I ignored, and a neighbor dropped in on me which I didn’t ignore. Then I had to run to an appointment! So I finished the rest when I got back. I found I was more effective when I wasn’t so rushed and overwhelmed by time. So I took a short break after each rectangle to finish the rest of the painting and told myself I was approaching the canvas for the first time 🙂 Cleaning the brush to dip into another color was the worst part of it because it took over a minute sometimes! I was happy that some of my watercoloring habits did help me paint it 🙂
The glamorous life and times of an artist!
The colors in this make it a very vibrant and interesting piece. It’s interesting to see it as a wip. Great job.
CUTE x 8! Good for you! Oil for a 10 minute challenge? Zowie! Great work – love the WIP photo.
They are precious! Congratulations on the sale!
Very nice, and SOLD too! Yahoo?
hi Maddyrose welcome to my blog!!! I must admit I am relishing this piece and feel a small whining inside me that I have to ship it away. But it will be hanging in a little girl’s room who is a blooming artist 😀
Hey Tootsie Roll thanks baby! What do you? We should try it in watercolors and see what kind of a puddled mess we can create???? 🙂
Thank you Sylvia!!!

Very cute Kokeshi paintings with eight different views! I have a few of those Kokeshi dolls.
Hello dear friend! I started my Kokeshi collection when I met Fuji-san from Hakone, home of some beautiful woodwork! So good to see you!
